The Power of Words

Picture""In the begining was the word. and the word was with God: and the word was God. All things were made by it, and without it, was made nothing, that was made. In it was the life, and the life was the light of men, and the light shineth in the darkness, but the darkness comprehended it not."

John 1:;1-6 Tynesdale New Testament.

"In the begining God created the heaven and the earth. And the Earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters."

Genesis 1: 1-2

I saw my problems and I'll see the light
We got a lovin' thing, we gotta feed it right
There ain't no danger we can go too far
We start believin' now that we can be who we are.....

grease is the word, is the word that you heard
It's got a groove, it's got a meaning
Grease is the time, is the place, is the m"otion
Grease is the way we are feeling

Grease - The Beegees.

Take a deep breath with me....

In the begining there was the word and it is the word, or rather words that I want to talk with you about today.

The quote from Genesis, for me is a most evocative use of words, connecting us to primordial origins. And where as Grease may not be the word, words ARE the time, place, motion and way you are feeling.  These first two quotes are talking about creation, In the begining. Now I know that if you are reading this you will have your own thoughts about the creation of all that is, and that is awesome, for me it is not of the most importance that one of us may call it divine, the other science, what matters is that at some point something or nothing occured that led up to the point in time where I can be typing this for you and all you beautiful people can be reading it. By the way it is just awesome that you are reading this today, thank you for you.

Now back to creation! As Luke Jermay says in his splendid book Building Blocks "Definition is Creation!"

The power of words is something that has been known for millenia. The major religions of the world all tell us to mind our speech, how our tongues can heal and destroy. Our ancient civilisations knew of the power of words. In a fascintating article from Per-ankh.co.uk the author writes,

"The ancient Egyptians believed in the power of the spoken word and that it had an effect upon the real world."

The bible is littered with quotes about correct use of speech. Today in a modern world neuroscience is showing and proving that words really do shape our world & reality. Fron the Sharp Brains Blog we find.

"Using brainscan technology, we now have a very good idea of what happens when we hear positive words & phrases.. This evidence continues to show that positive thinking is essential for developing healthy relationships."
As in Proverbs 16:24, our thoughts, our words, all move toward a healthier state of mind & well-being.

So, how much do our words impact us?

As a magician & hypnotist the use of words is of great interest to me. You can, with a little thought have people saying they saw you doing things that you know you never did.

I had someone approach me just the other week and say how they had loved seeing me make the ball float. I never did, Let me demonstrate.

(Watch the video before reading on.)

So what just happened here? I used words to tell you your experience.  Put ball in hand.  Make the blue ball invisible, you think it was red, when the hand opens & nothing is there you are now in a slightly confuesed headspace. Not blue, not there in that moment of confusion I tell you the ball is floating.  As we can only hang on to about 8-10 pieces of info at any one moment before too long the finer details of what happened will fade and you are likely to recall the last thing I told you, which is a blue ball floated, if I am real good you will even remember it changed colour.

But that is manipulation I hear you say!  Yes it is and we influence & shape our own/ others realities all the time, as do the media & politicians, if you think of the confusion of the campaigns for Brexit and Trump you can start to see how words can shape the realities of millions. In moments of confusion, we are more open to suggestion.

I have a dear friend who suffers with epilepsy and depression. The medications he takes are not compatable and so he must choose between suffering the epilepsy or the depression, so he takes the epilepsy tablets. I can tell from his posts on facebook when he is caught up in that cloud of depression that haunts him. So I tried an experiment and just put out a random post on facebook, tagged him in it. Just saying that he was awesome and a good friend, a great musician. Unexpected, it gave him a lift out of that cyclucal downward thinking. His response was how much he needed that and felt better for the post.  TRY IT, just randonly tag someone in a postivie post about how you appreciate them and just see the response.  I now do it with 50 random people a week and the feedback is beautiful.

Not only do our words as in the FROG STORY have the power to pick up or knock down others, they also reflect our inner private world. The religions of the world past and present have known this. This is why we have warnings over how we should speak, this is what is meant when it says,

" Death and life are in the power of the tongue." (Proverbs 18:21)

Your words have the power to make you and others feel good, think about that my friends, think about it.....

The world at the moment seems in terrible flux, we are bombarded everyday by media stories. It is all fear, all designed to make you scared, so you keep buying more papers to make sure your little part of the world is still safe. What does that do to you?

We are made to feel we can do nothing, that the world is so bad it is hopeless. But I still believe, I still believe that we live on a beautiful planet, with so much possibiliy, I believe each one of you reading this, out there in the word is the miracle you have been  searching for. I believe in you, me and humankind. Why?

Because in the begining was the word & the word was with God, & the word was God. God/dess is creation, the word & words create. We can create and shape our experiencing of this life.

So pay attention to words, what you say to others, what you say to yourself, what you choose to listen to. If we start to use our words as part of the creation, if we use our words to shape how we & others choose to see the world, we can make a difference. We can spread love, light and healing.

"Gracious words are like honeycombe sweetness to the world!"

To finish, let us share something together.... (Watch Video Below.)
